From roundabout interrogations to games of manipulation, from linguistic evasions to full-blown metamorphoses, Fairways of the New Salvation finds characters with shrunken horizons searching for some kind of transcendence. Across a range of situations that are by turns comic, malevolent, and phantasmagoric, ordinary men and women are bound by obscure codes of conduct they can’t comprehend. And yet, time and again, as they agitate for an escape route, they risk a new and more powerful subordination: to their own feverish senses of self, to their own deepest fears and desires.
